Extract from Log Book written by the Head Master

26.01.10 Wednesday – School closed on Monday at 1.30 as Polling booths had to be put up for Thursday’s Parliamentary Election. School was closed yesterday as that was Polling Day. High School was formally opened to-day by Sir Donald MacAlister in presence of a large company. Luncheon was given at 1 o’clock to chosen company by Dr & Mrs Smith in Windsor Hotel in celebration of the opening of the school.
28.01.10 Friday – Some little disturbance of the work of the various classes is being caused by flitting the apparatus and furniture of the High School.
31.01.10 Monday – This is the last day of the secondary classes in this school. To-morrow the work is begun in High School. All the Higher Grade Teachers are being transferred to the High School as well as Miss Laird.
01.02.10 Tuesday – To-day this school was occupied by the Higher Grade and Supplementary Pupils who are its first scholars. The Higher Grade pupils number is 297 (162 boys and 135 girls) and the Supplementary pupils 261 (137 boys and 124 girls). All the Higher Grade Teachers have been transferred with the Headmastership of Benjamin Hutchison, MA F.E.I.S. As full arrangements had been made for entry, the classes settled to work at once and no confusion or uncertainty prevailed at any time.
