Dance Programme Showcase

June 17, 2010 The Heidie's Blog by Philip Graham

Tonight (16th June) was the first performance of Achieving our full potential, the Centenary Show.  There may have been nerves and there may have been first night hiccups, but these were not apparent to the audience.  The show was terrific as pupils, former pupils, staff and former staff all worked together to put on a show that, even by our own high standards, was outstanding. It was particularly pleasing to see the professionalism of the former pupils who have moved on from the school theatre arts programme into further education in this area and further develped their talents.  The photos may be seen HERE.

School Show and Staff photo

June 15, 2010 The Heidie's Blog by Philip Graham

We had the latest in a line of Centenary events to-day - the staff photo!  It is a few years since we have had one taken and I was anxious that we do it this side of the summer break to best record those who were with us through the Centenary Day in February. We shall get it posted here on the website as soon as the photographer gets it to us.  The school show 'Achieving our full potential' is almost upon us now. This year we shall have a show that reflects the 100 years of the school and where former pupils will return to work with us again.  Our Dancer in Residence , Gavin Dorrian, also has a few surprises in store in the cast ........  Just two nights from now the curtain will be up on this latest showcase of Govan High talent.  Tickets are available from the school at £4 each.  Don't miss it!

Centenary Sports Day

June 11, 2010 The Heidie's Blog by Philip Graham

To-day we had the Centenary Sports.  It is at least 20 years since Govan High had a formal sports day.  Our PE staff suggested that we re-introduce it for the Centenary and it took place to-day.  What a fantastic morning it was.  The weather was kind to us and everyone had a great time.  We had pupil and staff events, fun and serious events and an assembly in the afternoon when all the prizes were presented.  Photos of the sports may be found on this website by clicking here.

Open Afternoon

June 10, 2010 The Heidie's Blog by Philip Graham

Tuesday was the open afternoon for former pupils who had attended during the 1940s and 1950s.  Unfortunately, I was called away at very short notice to a meeting in Edinburgh and missed all the excitement.  There was plenty!  We were expecting just over 30 former pupils and over 70 turned up!  While it may have put some initial strain on the catering, that was easily overcome and it was just fantastic to have had that small challenge.  The former pupils got the chance to mingle and renew old friendships, to speak to some of our present pupils and to tour the school and see what the modern day Govan High is like.  I am glad to say that the afternoon was a terrific success.  I am very grateful to the staff and pupils who worked hard to make it the success that it was and, of course, to all the former pupils who took advantage of the opportunity.  Photos of the event may be seen on this website in the Picture Gallery for the 1940s and the 1950s or by clicking here.

Open Events for Former Pupils

June 01, 2010 The Heidie's Blog by Philip Graham

Our open events for Former Pupils begin next week.  On Tuesday afternoon from 1 till 3pm we have the event for those who attended in the 1940s and 1950s;  the open evening on Thursday 10th June from 7 till 9 pm is for those who attended in the 1960s and 70s.  Please do not see the dates as being in any way exclusive!  It is just our effort to get folk together who have a chance of knowing one another.  The programme for the events is yet to be finalised but there will certainly be an opportunity to find out more about the school to-day as well as the most important thing - to reacquaint yourself with former school mates.  There will be plenty of photo opportunities and, of course, the Centenary shop will be open with memorabilia and tickets for the Dance Showcase on 16th and 17th June available.  There might even be some light refreshment!!

Please let Karen Flanagan at the school office know if you plan to attend at 0141-552-0090 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Similar events for the 80s onwards are planned for after the summer break.
