I attended Govan High from 1962-1966 started in Dysart then went to Bellahouston for my 4th year .Dysart was the best .my time there was great if only we could turn the clock back!Johnny Duncan was the head at Dysart then there was Mrs Carmicheal Dulcie Jones gave me writers cramp after I had to do 300 lines.I often wonder what happened to all my class! if any of you recognise me get in touch and maybe a wee reunion could be arranged!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So many memories, most of them fun, with the exception of the exams! I wouldn't say I was Mr Popular but it's interesting to see who else is still around and posting on here!

Well this is a blast from the past!!!!!! It's been many years since I left Govan, I have many memories from that time, some good dome not so much. Does anyone remeber Denzie?
Anyway, I moved away from Glasgow years ago, and am now in Wales. I spend my time between running my farm and maintaining my website Pembrokeshire Holiday Cottages.
After reading through some of these comments, I think I may recognise a few faces! If any of you remember me, feel free to drop me a line.

I was a pupil at this school from 1998-2003, i absoloutly loved Art with Mr Chambers he was a great teacher he made art come alive for me. He taught me how to look at painting like the love Van Gogh used with each brushstroke & what he was seeinf in his head when he painted the way he did. Because of Mr Chambers i went on to study Art & Art History at both college & university i graduated last month & today i am teaching art in my local high school & painting/sketching in my free time. So i owe a huge thank you to this man.

I have fond memories of my five years at Govan High leaving with my Highers in 1947.
As I lived just across the road I was often late and so kept a store of hand written copies of the psalm given out as late lines by the head science teacher of the time.

Just moved from the country and went to GHS (The old Bellahouston Building). Pretty traumatic experience but I survived and made a good few friends along the way. First to admit I was not the most serious scholar but do have fond memories of the fun and games of youth.

At Govan High around 1941 I was a pupil. I left around 1943-1944. I remember Mr McKim who was my French teacher along with Miss Stobo for English, Miss McDougall for Maths.
When I was evacuated to Skelmorlie I attended Largs Higher Grade and returned to Govan High around 1942.
My brother Jack Semple attended the school around 1939 - 1945 although was evacuated to Largs during this time. My mother Annie Adams Young attended around 1911/12 until 1914/15.
I will send some photographs in asap.

hi there,I'm writing this on behalf of my dad who died in 1987. He was born in 1919 and would have been 91 this December if he'd been alive. He went to Maryhill primary school but left to attend Harmony Row school in Govan as his family crossed the city for work. He left there and went to the senior school as it was called then. Govan Senior High School. He ended up being Dux and received 5 highers in English,Maths,Science,History and Geography. The teachers wanted him to go on to University but money was very tight in his family and he had to leave school and go to work as an office boy. He often said he got good grounding at the High school and was always proud of the school he attended. I suppose that's why he wanted me to attend a high school although I didn't get the grades that he got. If he was still alive I'm sure he'd like to wish the school congratulations.

I was at GHS until Dec 1983. Supposed to be the best days of our lives but I can't really remember much.Guess thats because the only subjects I really liked were, Sec. Studies & P.E.
I do remember that I did good in sports:
3 Golds for Shot Putt, Gold & Bronze for Disc, but I usually always came 4th for the running. But hey I still ended up winning the Junior & Senior Sports Cups..not bad eh, so my name should be on there somewhere.
Hope you have a great year and many more to follow.
